CONFLICTS OF INTEREST - FTAO All Team Members
Dear All,
Recently, as some members of the Management Team will already have been aware, the group has been compiling and reviewing our annual submission for the FCA (The Financial Conduct Authority), which must be completed and submitted by the 31st July. This is an important body of work, as it summarises our fitness (or otherwise) to sell Finance and Insurance products in a compliant way, upon which the business depends.
Though our findings conclude that we continue to operate in a professional and compliant way as a group (again, thank you to everyone helping us achieve this), we must continue to do so ongoing and work on any areas where improvement is possible, hence the reason for highlighting here our Conflicts of Interest policy.
In producing our annual FCA review, the topic of Conflicts of Interest has been identified as in need of "re-communicating" to Team Members (in addition to the Vulnerable Customers guidance that we re-issued to the Sales Teams recently), both in terms of our Conflict of Interest Policy itself, and the existence of our Conflict of Interests Register, which though nothing new, we are required to keep and maintain as part our wider FCA Compliance commitments. This register is held confidentially by Jane Pillinger, our Group Finance & Insurance Compliance Manager.
Conflicts of Interest is potentially a fairly "wide" topic, but in order to keep things simple, here's a summary;
ITEMS THAT SHOULD BE LISTED ON THE CONFLICTS OF INTEREST REGISTER
ITEMS THAT DON'T REQUIRE BEING LISTED ON THE CONFLICTS OF INTEREST REGISTER
IF IN DOUBT?
IMPORTANT POINTS TO UNDERSTAND
An important point to understand is that our intention here is not to stop or take away the receiving of any gifts or complimentary items, and/or the suppression of a Team Member listing any such item/s that should feature on the register.
It's also important to note that Team Members registering any items and benefits on the Conflict Of Interest Register, will not as a default position result in the item or benefit received being considered wrong, nor will the register itself be thought of as "a list of wrongdoing", but it's important that we know about them and register them in order to remain compliant in terms of the FCA. This is important to understand.
That said, in the event of a Conflict of Interest being declared, or discovered, the Board of Directors reserve the right to take appropriate action should it be deemed necessary, and the Company 'Conflict of Interest Register' updated accordingly.
